   I talk with people here about current events, sports, commonalities/differences between the US and Italy, family, food, and other things. Basically similar conversations to anywhere else I’ve been.

   There are no absolute taboo topics. Very few people have strong feeling about religion. Politics and sport are the issues where people is usually most dogmatic, and even then, you can always change the topic (“Cambiamo argomento”) with no bad feelings.
   After all, talk is talk. (“Tanto per parlare”, just talking)
